Life as we know it
Life as we now know it changed dramatically early in December 2010. My dear son, Kirk, was killed in a car accident as he was traveling from work to his home -- across the "Rims". This photo was taken at a friend's wedding in August, 2010. Kirk is joined here by his cousin, Bekah.
The outpouring of generosity and comfort to our family has been amazing....and my daughter and I have been able to lift our heads and enjoy peace, even while we grieve this heavy loss for our family.
Here is Kirk's obituary, which appeared in our local newspaper. It really states best who he was, and those people important in his life, as well as his pursuits and passions.

Oh, Sharon, I had no idea! I'd read Tara's and Molly's Facebooks and blogs about a friend who'd been killed but I didn't make the connection. I'm so, so sorry. He sounds like such a wonderful young man. Thank you for sharing his obituary.
Thank you for your sweet comment, Anne. Tara and Molly are just two of the wonderful members at RMCC that have blessed our family of three for over 25 years. While the pain and ache are acute...we have the assurance of Kirk at rest in heaven -- what a glorious thought!
Dear Sharon, I just re-read Kirk's obituary and it is so beautifully written and, as you said, a very fitting description of who Kirk was. I especially love this statement: "[He was] willing to remain in the background and yet now leaving a huge gap in our foreground." You are often in my thoughts and prayers, especially as I'm up late at night with my own dear son.
Thank you Molly. I've loved reading your notes about Kirk on FB, and know that Kirk's legacy of friendship and fellowship with you and J.R. will continue to impact many lives...He certainly is rejoicing in the gift of Titus!
Sharon,
I was so saddened to read this when I popped over here to check in. I feel for you and your family for the loss and I will say prayers both for a restful and peaceful path for Kirk in the next part of his journey and for strength and peace for you as you mourn his loss.
The obituary was beautiful. To be so well loved is a great accomplishment especially at such a young age.
Blessings,
Jen.
Thank you, Jen. Misty and I are, indeed, being carried through this time in strength and peace, as you mentioned. Hopefully, I will be faithful in journaling through this time to help process the experience.
While it is definitely hard for us as we miss his presence, we continue to feel his love and know he would want us to be living victorious lives.
Dear Sharon,
I am so very sorry about the loss of your son, Kirk. I can only imagine the hole it has left in your life. I read Kirk's obituary and he was obviously a fine young man, who touched so many people's lives and will be missed by so many. You must be so proud of him. My heart aches for you.
I will keep you in my prayers, Sharon. May God bless you and comfort you.
Hugs,
Karen
Karen...thanks so much for your thoughtful comment. I've read through your blog, the importance of faith in your life. Can't comprehend how someone could endure this loss without faith, and am so thankful for how the Lord carries us through this time.
